Like Melania Trump, Kamala Harris sees no room for compromise on abortion

I don’t think we should be making concessions when we are talking about a fundamental freedom to make decisions about your own body.

-- Kamala Harris

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

-- I Corinthians 6:19

Paul v Jesus: Just who will judge what?

In our ongoing examination of the differences between Paul and Jesus up pops an incidental remark of Paul's which shows again just how far Paul is from the thought-world of the historical Jesus.

Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

-- I Corinthians 6:2

It shows that Paul knows nothing of The Twelve sitting on thrones and judging The Twelve Tribes of Israel. In fact he has completely replaced the idea by the logic of his missionary calling to make disciples of all nations, so that he can say to the Corinthians that they, the believers, will judge the world, the unbelievers. The Jewish apocalyptic nationalism of Jesus has been completely and utterly replaced, in keeping with Paul's idea that the church has replaced Israel. The church, the "Israel of God", is a "new creature" where nothing counts but being in Christ crucified (Galatians 6:14ff.).

And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

-- Matthew 19:28

And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

-- Luke 22:29f.

The Corinthians in fact had gotten so high on the idea that they were kangs already that Paul must spill quite a bit of ink in I Corinthians 4 mocking their "reign".

Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

-- I Corinthians 4:8

Now where'd they get that idea?

Nadia Bolz-Weber's god is her SELF, and she still doesn't understand Paul of Tarsus

Probably never really read Paul, or Luther for that matter.

The Lutheran Pastor Calling for a Sexual Reformation:

The hypocrisy of purity culture, she argues, has recently been exposed through the #MeToo and #ChurchToo movements, as survivors of sexual violence within the Church speak out about abuse. “Purity culture equals rape culture,” she told me, by placing the onus on women. “It says to young women that your bodies aren’t your own and you can’t be a sexual being until you are the property of your future husband.”

. . . and ye are not your own. -- I Corinthians 6:9

Offending our self-obsessed chaos of individualists in twenty words or less

"I do not get to decide who I am and how I may behave".

No Christian should agree with the Witherspoon Institute's "there is no fundamental right to marry"

The story, "There Is No Fundamental Right to Marry", appears here, from which this bit of nonsense:

"We possess fundamental rights to things such as life, liberty, and property because these things are intimately connected with our self-ownership. As Locke helpfully explains, we own property in external objects because we own our free actions of appropriating them, and we own our free actions because we own ourselves. For Locke—as well as for the American founders and Lincoln—this was as far as our fundamental rights went."

Evidently Catholics still don't read Paul much. Those who do will recoil at the idea that "we own ourselves". This is the sort of Enlightenment revolution in thinking which was characteristic of the transition from the Age of Faith to the Age of Reason, and is still the sticking point between the so-called conservatives of modernity and the real pre-modern variety. Christians recognize no such idea as owning the self because they believe that they "are not their own":

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." -- 1 Corinthians 6:19f.

The truth is that there are no fundamental rights such that we can distinguish between those rights which inhere in us and those which don't. Life? It comes to an end. One cannot stop the Grim Reaper. Liberty? There is no such thing. Even the freest man must eat, drink, eliminate and breathe. Property? In death you cede it to another. You cannot take it with you, not even the coin in your mouth. It goes to the Ferryman.

The right to marry is an alien idea to those who know it simply as what must be done. If there is no marriage, who will exist such that there is a country a hundred years hence which still can reasonably be called the one you grew up in?

America, for example.

"[D]o you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God."

Sodomy has been decriminalized in America since 2003, affecting approximately 2% of the population, or 6.3 million gays and lesbians, not counting heterosexual sodomizers. Before 1962 sodomy was a felony in every state. Those born of fornication, that is live births to unmarried women, in 2010 numbered approximately 1,633,471, almost 41% of all births. As for adulterers, there were provisionally 840,000 divorces in 2009, the rate of divorce provisionally averaging 3.6% of the adult population annually over the last seven years, an unknown number of which divorced for cause. The number of marriages has averaged 2.1 million annually over the same period, the number of which committed adultery by doing so also being unknown. Approximately 15 billion condoms were produced worldwide in 2005, 0.9 billion in the USA, for an estimated 530 million total users that year, or 28 each.

Are We To Be Equal To The Angels, Or Over Them?

"Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?"

-- 1 Corinthians 6:3

"But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection."

-- Luke 20:35f
