I got your Antichrist right here, J. D.

Vance suspects Antichrist 'among us'...

... like I'd be not shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us ...

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish.

Thirty paragraphs into a story touting Joe Biden's popularity with Catholics, Politico admits he lost the white Catholic vote nationally by 15 points

Kamala Harris’ Pennsylvania Problem: Joe Biden’s local ties and cultural roots kept him competitive in culturally conservative northeastern Pennsylvania. Harris’ prospects in the heavily Catholic, working-class region there are dicier:
A Brookings analysis earlier this year by University of Pennsylvania professor John DiLulio noted that Hillary Clinton lost the overall white Catholic vote by 33 points in 2016, but four years later, Biden cut that deficit in half, losing by only 15 points.

The story never once mentions that J. D. Vance, Trump's running mate, is a 2019 convert to the Catholic faith and might represent as big a challenge for Harris as her abortion advocacy and her grilling of "a Catholic judicial nominee about whether he could remain impartial due to his membership in the Knights of Columbus, a respected Catholic fraternal organization".

The Athenian general Nicias in the history of Thucydides was not the superstitious man scared by a lunar eclipse in the biography of Plutarch

Thucydidean Nicias is presented as a rational general and tactician ... he has no relation to Plutarch’s fearful and superstitious character. ... Nicias’ decision to side with the seers may have been a rationally based choice with the aim of avoiding mutiny in his army – a mutiny which would have proven fatal to their survival. ... the historian shows profound admiration of Nicias in a funerary epigram in which he praises the latter as a man of exceptional arete. ... Nicias’ partiality to the manteis was considered a weakness by the historian, but it was a tiny part of his overall positive presentation: we might call it a mere parenthesis, rather than a judgment long held back, as the authoritative commentator [Hornblower] puts it.

Impiety begets impiety

Shall then the Son of Saturn be undone,
Like Saturn, by an impious Son!
Justly th' impartial Fates conspire,
Dooming that Son to be the Sire
Of such another Son.

The partiality of Jesus: Good news for the lost sheep of the house of Israel

"For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet: The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs."  -- Mark 7:25ff.

"And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs." -- Matthew 15:22ff.

"These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." -- Matthew 10:5f.

"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you." -- Matthew 7:6

"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie." -- Revelation 22:14f.

Andree Seu Peterson Thinks God Shows Partiality

"God makes no apology for his favoritism toward His own," she writes, here, on the strength of Ecclesiastes 2:26.

And you thought "God shows no partiality" (Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11; Gal.2:6; et alia).

Do You Have Regard For Some More Than Others?

Do you esteem some more than others? The rich over the poor? The successful ones in life over the failures? Those with jobs over those without? The 5K champion over the morbidly obese? The Ph.D. over the one with no degree? The one whose skin color fills a quota? The Pastor over the janitor? The Dutchman over the Italian?

Do you show such partiality? Are we not all fellow travelers to the grave?

If you have understanding, hear this; listen to what I say. Shall one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn him who is righteous and mighty, who says to a king, 'Worthless one,' and to nobles, 'Wicked man'; who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor, for they are all the work of his hands? In a moment they die; at midnight the people are shaken and pass away, and the mighty are taken away by no human hand.

-- Job 34:16ff
